[svccridesupdate] Why Bike Outside In The Winter?

Dear all,
This is a follow on from Steve Brawley’s article. The risk of hypothermia when cycling.
As you are aware I was on that ride with Steve.
I had just gone over Frocester cross roads, heading towards Stonehouse, Ian was just behind me, we stopped to see where Steve was. Looked around and could see he has just pulled in to outside the pub. Ian cycled back to see if Steve was ok, on his return, Ian said that ‘he was changing his gloves’ we carried on, thinking there was nothing untoward with Steve.
Throughout Thursdays ride I had no idea that Steve was cold or even developing hypothermia.
Knowing the ramifications of this cold weather injury I would have stayed with Steve.
Possible lesson learnt, when cycling in conditions like this, maybe we need to keep an eye out for each other without being overly intrusive! It’s with this in mind that I’ve produced an article on, Why winter bike outside in the winter.
Have asked to David to put this on SVCC site. Will also put it on WhatsApp.
I hope it is of help?
Yours,
Paul
