The Club was founded on Sunday 4th April 1943 following an inaugural run led by Frank Young to Newnham and was reported in the Local newspaper as follows:
“ A Stroud Section of the Bristol District Association of the Cyclist’s Touring Club has been formed with a nucleus membership of about 25. It was initiated as the result of an enjoyable run to Newent in which some 45 riders took part. Tea was taken at Kilcote and most of the party returned with generous bouquets of daffodils. The new body will have Mr G Hadley as the Runs Captain and Mr F Young as the General Secretary……!”
Such was the popularity of the group that by 3rd July it had completed 30 runs covering 1673 miles, an average of 56 miles per run. Social activities were included and novelty runs and Hard Riders and Easy riders runs soon followed. By 31st October a total of 71 runs had been completed covering a total of 3808 miles averaging 54 miles per run.
