[svccridesupdate] Peter Gartside

I am not sure if the sad news of Pete Gartside’s death has been disseminated to other club members but  am sharing the email I received from Pete and Beryl’s daughter, Diane who is happy for me to share it.

If anyone can help Diane find her father’s time trial records I would be grateful if you would contact me and I will pass it on to her. I am guessing British Cycling is the place to look but would appreciate any help.

Malcolm

Hello Malcolm,
Hope all well with U.
I’m sorry to be the bearer of sad news but I wanted to let U know that my Dad  passed away earlier this month after a short illness. It all happened very quickly – he experienced  difficulty breathing at the end of September and was in hospital having his lungs drained for a couple of weeks. He came home and we thought he would improve, but he didn’t and became increasingly frail.  He was back in hospital at the beginning of November, but was too frail to have a permanent drain inserted. I managed to get them both to the Hollies  in Dursley and Dad passed peacefully on 8/11.
So sad – especially for Mum – they were joined at the hip!   However, she is settling well and has a lovely room – the early dementia may by numbing her emotions but she is in a good place – a new chapter.  I will be a regular visitor with Archie – my dog.
We are not having a funeral, just a private cremation.  Family are all ‘up north’ and we take a trip up in the new year to celebrate Dad’s life with them.  We plan to take a road trip in the Spring with Dad’s ashes and sprinkle them on the route where he did his best time trial time. That makes more sense to us than a funeral.
Wondering whether U can help – is the anywhere where I can access time trial records, or Dad’s cycle racing history?  Yet to start going thru personal records.
Regards,
Diane

Photo taken in August of this year – looking happy!  So glad he didn’t have a long drawn out illness.
