Dear all,

 

Last August I did a solo off road cycle ride with an over night camp (really a basic bivie*) at Bubb’s Hill near Cockleford. This site is owned by the Girl Guides.

 

I’m planning to do it  again 12 -13 Aug 23, hopefully this time having a bit of company. I’ve provisionally booked the site on Bubb’s Hill, but sooner rather than later I will need to confirm numbers. To that end I need to know if any club members would like to join me?

 

I’ve changed the criteria a bit:

• Instead of calling it wild camping, I’ve named it  camping. The main difference is you can bring a small tent instead if a basic bivie/fly sheet.
• Offering a road route (Clare Smith has provided RWGPS option #)  as well as an off road #option. I fully understand that most do not have mountain bikes. A gravel bike might work, but parts are very steep and the terrain unforgiving. Bearing in mind you will be carrying a reasonable heavy load.
• We will have access loos
• There are those who may want a bit more comfort, with an expensive tag to it! There is the  Green Dragon, which is about half a mile down from Bubb’s Hill. But that may come under the trade description act, as camping!
• A bit more of a sales pitch, after cooking our meal, el fresco, we could always wander down to the pub!

 

I’ve got quite a lot of camping equipment loitering in my attic, tents, cookers etc. Happy to lend these out.

 

My I suggest, to keep the weight down, you pair off. So we don’t have to bring two cookers, mess tins, tents etc. But that is entirely up to you, I’m happy to share, but you would sleeping under a very basic shelter!

 

I’ve attached a basic kit list. As I said let me know if I can assist you with any of this.

 

For those who haven’t done this sort of camping before, I’m happy to provide some guidance, maybe run a pre camp preparatory  session.
