[svccridesupdate] Advance notice of drive to start ride on Tuesday 20th May

I mentioned at the AGM that I planned to offer a couple of drive to start Tuesday rides in coming months, allowing us to explore some countryside outside our normal Tuesday territory. This email is to provide advance notice of my plan to offer the first of these rides on Tuesday 20th May  – a route west of the River Severn, with a stop at the Dean Heritage Centre Café.

I am providing these details well in advance of the ride date so that you will have sufficient time to organise car travel / car shares (where possible) and also to ask you to let me know if you will be coming (not least to check that it will be worth my while to drive to the start point!). Here are the details:

The ride date: Tuesday 20th May.

Location of start of ride: Car park alongside White Hart Inn, near Westbury-on-Severn (the parking area is large).

Directions for start point: Approaching Westbury-on-Severn from the Gloucester direction, you drive through Westbury and then, after approx.. 1 ¼  miles  (as the road comes alongside the river), the pub / car park is on the left (river side of road). We will assemble at the far end of the car park from the pub.

Start time: 1.30pm. Please arrive in good time to be ready to start riding at 1.30pm.

Ride details:

  • 34 miles, medium paced, 2042 ft / 622 m of climbing.

  • Route: White Hart Inn car park – Westbury on Severn – Rodley – Chaxhill – Flaxley – Little Dean – Dean Heritage Centre Cafe – Moseley Green – Lydney outskirts – Etloe – Fieldhouse – Newnham on Severn – car park.

  • For full details, please use following link:     https://ridewithgps.com/routes/50518131      (For those who participated in a drive to start ride a couple of years ago which used the same start point you will see that this route is significantly different!)

Other instructions:

  • Please email me by no later than Sunday 18th May if you are planning to join this ride. Assuming there is sufficient uptake I will then confirm that the ride will be happening on Monday 19th.

  • If you have a car / bike racks with capacity to transport more than one bike, I would encourage you to liaise with other riders for some car sharing (anyone able to offer a lift, and anyone who needs a lift, could make enquiries via the WhatsApp group).

I look forward to hearing from those of you who would like to join the above ride.
