[svccridesupdate] The Gospel Pass
Good afternoon,
A couple of members have asked me about organising a trip over the Gospel Pass, in the Black Mountains.
If you don’t know much about the pass, it is the highest paved road in Wales at 549 metres.
It is an iconic cycling route, with marvellous views and it is also a real challenge because you will do a lot of climbing!
I plan to arrange a club ride over the pass on Sunday 28th June.
At the moment I plan to set off from Hay on Wye, so members will need to drive there but if you fancy a longer trip you can cycle there.
Peter Chaffer, Ian Cooper, Paul Rothwell and I did the trip from Stroud in June 2024, clocking up 142 miles and 9,150 feet of climbing, so be warned…
The route I have in mind takes you over the pass, with a coffee stop at Llanthony Priory, then on to lunch at Michaelchurch Escley before heading back to Hay on Wye.
That will be around 38 miles with a lot of climbing though I haven’t worked out the total yet.
Full details to follow but at this stage I am just looking for expressions of interest in taking part.
With best wishes,
Steve.
