[svccridesupdate] SVCC Proposed Canoeing Trip River Wye
Dear all,
Think it was about 8 months ago that I made club members aware of a proposed 4 day canoeing trip on the River Wye.
The initial dates were:
Fri 7 – Mon 10 Jun
or
Tue 11 – Fri 14 Jun
Unfortunately during these periods, I can’t book one of the camp sites. So now looking at:
Mon 27 – Thur 30 May
or
Thur May – Sun 2 Jun 24
Itenary:
Stay overnight at Hoarwithy, the following morning have a bit of a skills session before we start.
Canoe to Ross on Wye camp at the rowing club
Canoe to Biblins Camp site
Canoe to Monmouth, finish and exit point
Most sites are in the vicinity of shops or/and pub!
The following colleagues have shown interest, can you please confirm that this is still the case
David Hassall
Matt Uttings
Lin Holley
Clare Smith
Chris Hunt
Helen Fenton
Peter Chaffer
Is there anyone else who might be interested? Really I don’t want the group to be any larger that 5/7. We will be using open cockpit Canadian canoes, which are very easy to handle and steer. I plan to run a practice session on the first morning of the trip. We will be working in pairs. For camping you can either share or bring your own tent. These canoes have a large carrying capacity…well, within reason!
Cost, I’ve roughly worked out how much each person needs to contribute. This is mainly for campsite fees, canoe landing, parking charges. As scouting is a charity and we are getting the canoes and the ancillary kit for free, I think each of us should contribute something to Randwick Scouts, possibly £10 per person. So including this voluntary contribution plus all the other bits and pieces, I make it roughly £60/£70 per person. Of course on top of that, you have to purchase your food for the trip.
I may be able to help out with some camping equipment, tents, cookers/stoves etc
For now, can you please confirm that you are still interested and better still, a commitment. Will go with a minimum of 3. I’m certainly going to do it, so would be happy to pair off with another person. Did this trip about 4 years ago. The Wye is such a peaceful and serene place….of course much depends on our fickle weather!
I’m happy to use my car to tow the canoe trailer, I can take 2/3 passengers as well, I will need some assistance with loading/unloading canoes and equipment.
If there is still enough interest, then I’ll set up a WhatsApp group. Am very conscious that this must not be ‘hogging’ our rides update site
I did try and send this with some photos, but my email bounced back, assuming that they were too large.
Yours,
Paul R
